Breakfast is the most important meal of the day or so they say. As a new mama, when my baby was ready to eat solids, I was lost for where to start and what to feed him. My son, Caleb, is now 13 months old and I am feeling like I have gotten the hang of tackling our mornings and having a good breakfast to start the day with a baby breakfast routine.

Begin Baby Breakfast Routine at Night
Caleb tends to get so excited to eat in the morning and does not want to wait for me to prepare his food and then for it to subsequently cool down. If you can, I recommend preparing breakfast the night before so that it is easy to get your day started.
Picking the Balanced Baby Breakfast
Our breakfast always consists of a serving of protein, fruit, and carbohydrates. He gets to decide how much of each he eats. Here are some ideas to get your little one (or you!) off to a good start with breakfast.
Proteins
Eggs– I make 1 scrambled egg (may try hard-boiled soon to see if he likes it). I cut the egg into strips for him to easily hold and feed himself. Traditionally I will serve him about ⅓ of an egg. If he wants more I will give him more, if not, I have it for the next breakfast.
Plain Whole Milk Greek Yogurt– For babies, full fat is where it is at. Also, have your little one try this with no sweeteners. You may be surprised how much they like it!
Fruits
Whatever is in season.
I have been loving the account Feeding Littles on Instagram. They have great resources for baby food ideas. They also give amazing tips on how to cut and serve food. Here is an amazing way to serve banana!
Carbohydrates
Oatmeal– ½ Cup Quick Oats, ½ Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk, ½ Cup Water
Add-Ins- when oatmeal is done cooking, stir in 1 of the following add-in options. It is best to do this while the oatmeal is still hot:
- Cube of Frozen Apple Sauce, Sprinkle of Cinnamon
- Spoon Full of Peanut Butter
Muffins –Pumpkin Muffins Recipe
Bread– Find a soft whole-grain bread. Be careful of the ingredients because some bread does contain honey. I love to put a small amount of peanut butter on a quarter slice of bread and add thinly sliced strawberries on top. I cut these into cubes. It is like an open face healthy PBJ.
Easy Combo of all 3
3 Ingredient Pancakes combine a serving of protein, fruit, and carbohydrates.
Purchasing Baby Breakfast Products
When purchasing any food, make sure to look at the ingredients. You would be shocked how many foods have added sugar (like yogurt, apple sauce, and peanut butter).
Here are some of my favorite baby breakfast products:
Baby Eating Resources
Courses – Oh Baby- First Foods for Babies I have been using these resources for baby-led weaning and starting solid foods.
Utensils – for ease of feeding the right utensils make baby breakfast a snap.
What are your children’s favorite breakfast foods? Any morning staples I missed? We are always looking to introduce new recipes and foods into our day.
Love these ideas!
